Buluh and Tebing

in 2025

Buluh Tebing Projection is an exploratory bamboo structure that examines the architectural potential of bamboo in its natural, non-engineered form.

The project proposes a bamboo system developed from over 100 bamboo species, celebrating the diversity, adaptability, and inherent strength of bamboo without industrial engineering or heavy material processing.

Rather than standardisation, the structure embraces natural variation—allowing differences in size, texture, and character to inform the design.

The project demonstrates how traditional knowledge, careful selection, and thoughtful assembly can create resilient and expressive bamboo systems rooted in craftsmanship and ecological awareness.

Rumpun was involved as a consulting partner, contributing expertise in bamboo species selection, treatment methods, construction techniques, and sustainable sourcing.

Through this role, the project bridges vernacular building wisdom with contemporary architectural exploration.

Buluh Tebing Projection stands as a statement on low-impact construction—highlighting bamboo as a renewable, biodiverse, and culturally grounded material, capable of shaping meaningful architecture without reliance on engineered products.
